Ann Bramham of the teaching spa, Bramham Institute, has found that people were taught to relieve the stress of their life by transferring it onto their bodies. She says, "they're thinking mind over matter, but mind is matter." As the baby boomers age they are thinking less about being faster, bigger and better, and more about nurturing and caring for their bodies and mind. That means logging less time on the treadmill and more on the massage table, with maybe a hydro or algae seaweed wrap thrown in. Shiatsu Massage Creates a Balance of Energy within the Body, Mind and Spirit.
Shiatsu massage is a Japanese form of massage, which is based upon the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine's 12 energy channels that run throughout our bodies. The word Shiatsu literally means "finger pressure" and while acupuncture uses the energy meridians and individual points as places to insert needles for therapy, Shiatsu massage uses finger pressure along these energy channels and on these points to unblock the energy pathways, creating a balance of energy within the body, as well as in the mind and spirit.
Shiatsu massage does not require skin contact, so the receiver will want to wear loose, comfortable clothing. A Shiatsu session lasts approximately one hour and leaves one feeling relaxed, relieved of stress and minor aches, and pains.
